Green Smoothie Challenge!

Shelby & I (and Matt when he's home) are going to be drinking a green smoothie every day for 30 days starting the 25th February through to the 25th of March. Anyone wanna join us?

What is a Green Smoothie?

Well, a green smoothie is a smoothie that is made up of water, green leafy vegetables like spinach, lettuce, silverbeet, parsley etc and fruit like bananas, apples and berries etc.

Why are we doing this?

Well, in the past month we've been dabbling with drinking green smoothies and have quite liked them. They sound gross but really they're quite tasty! Matt is a very cautious food eater and he will drink them and actually likes them. Also, it's tastier than a big green salad. Shelby will drink them but won't touch green veggies except for celery so it's an easy way to get veggies down her throat! AND....Sara at Happy Foody challenged us. :) Fair enough?

Here was her challenge exactly:

For 30 days beginning on February 25, you will commit to this ONE THING:

* Drink 16oz (500ml) of green smoothie each day…preferably for breakfast. I HIGHLY recommend getting the book “Green For Life” by Victoria Boutenko. It’s a quick read and it has lots of yummy smoothie recipes in it. Check out her website too! That’s it! You don’t even need to commit to changing anything else. Just ADD the smoothie.

But, for an added bonus, you could add one or more of the following:

* Do some sort of activity every day. This could be an intense workout, or just dancing with your kids around the living room. It could be a 15 minute yoga session or a walk around the block.

* Add a green leafy salad to your lunch or supper.

* Stop drinking pop.

* Cut out all white sugar.

Here's a link to a You-Tube tutorial on making green smoothies. This was the very first one we tried and it's so far my favourite--although I only use frozen berries (mixed) and probably double the amount she does: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-C8yHa1txCk

Here's another one that explains more of why it's good for you although her smoothie is essentially the same as the first: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eXr8-jru1KE&NR=1
